This one day GPS Course in Snowdonia North Wales is a great way to learn about the pros and cons of gps devices, learn the limits of gps units and how they work alongside traditional map and compass navigation.During the day we will cover the use of GPS for giving a grid reference using the ordnance survey grid system OSGB, which is the usual datum for use in the UK. We will also cover the programming of Way Points, Tracks, Routes and Paths as well as Marking special features along the way when your out in the hills or mountains.
What will you learn?
What a GPS can and cannot do, its accuracy and its use with OS Maps What a GPS and a digital map can and cannot do to help keep you safe in the hills and mountains Set up your GPS so that it works correctly in the UK Know what waypoint, track, route, goto, track back etc mean and how to use these functions. Find your current position with your GPS and enter a waypoint and then travel safely to it Use your GPS to navigate along a simple pre-planned route in the hills or mountains
The course will be part class room based and the rest of the day spent in the local hills using your GPS in a real environment. You will need your normal hill walking clothing and footwear as well as drinks and packed lunch. Start times
are 09.00 and the course will end no later than 17.00 with a debrief
over a mug of coffee. |
